Had a look at the eruption of Mount Kelug Indonesia last night. Also looked at sun spot activity and TEC maps and there certainly seems to be correlation IMHO. News article here http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2014/02/13/world/asia/ap-as-indonesia-volcano-erupts.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&smid=tw-nytimes&_r=1
During my search on the net came across something I looked at a few weeks ago. It is about earth going through the debris field of 209P/Linear comet. The orbital path is described here http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?orb=1;sstr=209P
The result will be lots of meteors !!
Here is a vid clip
Here is a graphical representation of where the debris (meteoroids) are in relation to Earth during May
The estimate of level of the shower is based on photometric measurements of the comet. Very few data are currently available (as on Oct. 2014). So far, given the observations, we estimate a ZHR of 100/hr to 400/hr, which is an excellent outburst! But this shower can become an exceptional one. Indeed, given the current orbit of the comet (from JPL HORIZONS ephemerids database), ALL THE TRAILS EJECTED BETWEEN 1803 AND 1924 DO FALL IN THE EARTH PATH IN MAY 2014!!! As a consequence, this shower might as well be a storm. But how to definitely know whether or not it will be a storm?
Call for Observation of comet 209P/LINEAR (2004 CB)
The only way to know if this shower will be a storm or not is to better know the parent body, comet 209P/LINEAR (2004 CB). AS A CONSEQUENCE, WE CALL FOR OBSERVATION: ASTROMETRY, PHOTOMETRY – MAGNITUDE AND [Afrho] MEASUREMENTS! ANY data will help in order to derive the ZHR (number of visible meteors – after correction).February 17, 2014 at 4:41 pm #82739
Comet is now visible on satelite cams. See centre top.
Planet in the centre right is Mars.February 19, 2014 at 4:25 pm #82752
Report of a “massive” meteor yesterday Santa Fe Argentina that shook the ground as it exploded in the sky.
There is an informative video link in this link http://beforeitsnews.com/earthquakes/2014/02/argentina-meteor-big-enough-to-cause-earth-tremors-video-2488904.html
Lost in translation is mention of a “40 mile rock” that I would rather read as raduis or area felt/heard/seen.February 19, 2014 at 5:29 pm #82754
Yea, there was some terrible translations out on it last night. Sounded like it was a skyburst and it was heard/felt for a 300km radius.
bad idea to use beforeitsnews as a reference…Quote:The incident was reported early mid morning. “This happened at an altitude of approximately 70 kilometers”, said Coghlan who added that as the “space rock penetrates the atmosphere; in a radius of forty kilometers it could be clearly heard”. However in this case the radius area was estimated in 300 kilometers.February 28, 2014 at 7:21 pm #82740
I just read a comment somewhere that reminded me of this post. You should take that video down in your first post, I didn’t watch it until now, or get another source.
I spend allot of time on the alternative news sites and I subscribe to some of the youtube channels also. BUT if we start posting links to those kind of places here – this website/forum is going to lose credibility.March 1, 2014 at 10:45 am #82741
Some nice aurora (Northern Lights) photos from the UK yesterday (28 Feb 2014), much further south than usual due to a solar coronal mass ejection: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-26378027March 1, 2014 at 4:36 pm #82758
Been following the flare tracking since Tueseday. A 4.9 X flare fortunately not direct earth facing, but we got a glancing blow. http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2014/02/24/solar_flare_huge_sunspot_returns_to_erupt_again.html
Here a pic from NASA.

Back to my original post about comet 209P/Linear. The debris field of this small comet is certainly impressive, indicating the possiblility of many meteors in the upcomming weeks. http://feraj.narod.ru/Radiants/Predictions/209p-ids2014eng.htmlMarch 4, 2014 at 12:00 pm #82742March 4, 2014 at 5:21 pm #82772
Ha ha, Cousin, and he is not alone out there debunking BP.
So, lets call this a hoax !!! Besides the nothern lights in this topic, the rest is busted – so mod lets kill it.March 4, 2014 at 5:53 pm #82773
With my luck we call it a hoax and millions of fireballs comes down :silly:March 4, 2014 at 6:49 pm #82774
Ok, comet 209p?linear is a close event, not quite a hoax – BP is just running away with his vids into “doom porn” :woohoo:March 6, 2014 at 6:38 pm #82775
Fairly busy up there with close asteroids. Just had 2014dx110 passing close two days ago and yesterday 2014ef was discovered passing even closer !!

A report with some great pics of something “from space” seen in the UK yesterday. An UFO, most unlikely, a tad odd to be a contrail of an arcraft, and from the description too slow to be a meteorite imho. Perhaps some man made space junk returning to earth. I do like the pics however.

You Tube is perhaps the least credible source, but here is something new and quite amazing that has just been published. A skydiver capures a meteorite falling at terminal velocity after been slowed down by the atmosphere.
