Yesterday we spoke about the potential for a tropical cyclone
For much of this evening (Sat 22nd) there have been isolated flashes of lightning about 50km north of Cape Town. The CT radar is active, and shows weak to moderate storm cells. Most of the convection is embedded in a layer of altocumulus, and the flashes seem to be cloud-to-cloud (not really visible from the ground).
The forecast for tomorrow (Sun 23rd) is moderately favourable for showers and thundershowers over Cape Town.
Edit: By 11pm the lightning got closer, and some storm cells passed directly over CT (a few drops of rain reached the ground in Kenilworth). It is worth posting this radar image, the first storms shown this year!
