Q : Are there tornadoes in South Africa?
Recent model runs (GFS and NAVGEM up to 06Z on Fri 10th) continue to be fickle (particularly at the longer durations). The first cold-front is likely to bring limited rain to the SW-Cape (more to the E-Cape) during Tues 14th, while a second front is shown on some (but not all) model runs during Wed 15th.
A common factor in all runs is an extended period of very cold weather for a large part of South Africa (and potentially stretching up into Zimbabwe) during this event.
This GFS chart showing the situation at 06Z on Thurs 16th (6 days or 144 hours ahead), while not necessarily representative of the majority of model runs, does indicate the potential for this event to produce extreme weather!
