Storm Chasers / Spotters Database

It is an ambition of mine to create a database of storm chasers, spotters and even just severe weather photographers and publish it on the site. This will help in actively expanding storm chasing and helping chasers locate possible chase partners close to them. With petrol the way it is a shared petrol price for a chase will always be nicer. Hopefully this can in some way encourage more of a social experience in storm chasing, like it is in the United States. So if you want to help the community and take part in this... Welcome to the 2009 Atlantic Hurrican Season

The 1st of June 2009 saw the beginning of the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season. This year the expert hurricane specialists have forecasted a just below average season. A neuteral season is likely, though a slight El Nino is possible near the end of the season. Currently model forecasts are showing that a low pressure and possible tropical system may develop in the Caribbean in about a week or two, though this is a long time out it has been hinted by the GFS, EURO and the CMC. So be sure to check out the forums throughout the season to keep up to date with the latest in tropical developments in the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific.

Current South African Weather Pattern

Currently conditions are dull as a series of weak to moderate cold fronts pass over the Western Cape region. These fronts will pass along the south coast with very little to no impact to the more northern parts of South Africa and Gauteng will continue with their cold minimum but mild maximum temperatures. The pattern remains somewhat typical for this time of the year and at present there are no real large storm systems to monitor, though a close eye will be kept on the models and updates will be given as soon as something interesting makes itself shown.

Gallery Update

Some new images have been added to the gallery. While events remain fairly quiet for severe weather photography I managed to dig out some older photographs and have also included a 'fire' gallery which can be located on the left. These gallery categories will continue to expand with time as I continue to take more photographs involved with severe weather. With a likely surge in material come November when I am almost certainly heading up country for a 2 to 3 week storm chasing vacation.
