Has anyone got records of wind speeds in the Camps Bay area on the 30th September 2009. We have a insurance claim that is being contested by the insurance co (no suprise) If someone has or knows of anyone who has accurate and documented evidence of the actual wind speeds in the gerneral area from around 5pm through till 11pm on the evening of the 30th September 2009 please would you get in touch. There will be a reward for the right information as the insurance claim is in excess of R1m.

Thanks

I'm an amateur, so I can't 'prove' anything, but my records indicate that 30 Sep 2009 had a strong South-Easterly wind in Cape Town.

As to whether it was excessive or not, perhaps you should contact the South African Weather Service, who could provide some documentary information (for a fee).

As you know Camps Bay doesn't have an 'official' weather station. The site windreport.co.za has a wind gauge at La Med:
windreport.co.za/wr_campsbay.shtml
windreport.co.za/wr_campsbaypast.shtml
You can try contacting them to see if they keep an archive of previous months.

I don't keep records from that location, but I will dig further into my archives to see if I have more specific data from other locations.

I did find a graph from Cape Point showing wind speeds of 70kts (130km/h) on the evening of 30 Sep 2009. How that translates into wind speeds in Camps Bay I can't say (probably quite windy!)

The official SAWS weather stations at Cape Town airport and Langebaan don't show anything exceptional, but this can occur if the wind is along the coast, or near the mountains.

Off Topic: I just had serious interruption with my ADSL network (Mweb)...
