Hopefully it will be a good year. This season sort of snuck up on me, feels like just yesterday I was tracking last seasons storms on the live cam feeds.

I remember a few chasers who got excited at the start of the month and, using the long range models, forecasted severe weather for the 7th/8th, which turned out to be good day for tornadoes. The 11 of March is a day known for tornadoes- think the record is 44 on the day to hit one state.

Unfortunatly I cant watch the live stream. Either i'd be kicked out of the university's computer LAN, or i'll finish my monthly cap! Lol.

This is probably going to be one of the best things for the new uncapped options. I'll be able to sit on the TVN streams 24/7 ;p

SO I heard that a tornado touched down late yesterday - posted by servere weather.com on their facebook page, but sadly no pictures does anyone know of that tornado, how strong it was, where it was and maybe just maybe have a few photos?

I collect the photos for myself, but I am also interested in tornadoes. Living in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa, we do not get so lucky to actually get to see something that big from mother nature. The closest we get if we are lucky are a few funnel clouds and most of the time it's a case of shaking your head and telling yourself it does not really happen here, but I myself have seen more than one funnel cloud develop out of storms, but either the storm is not powerful enough or something else is wrong that it does not continue to develop.

The past easter weekend saw quite a few funnel clouds start to develop but then just as quickly vanish again to be overtaken either by rain or another cloud. Saw some rotating clouds and what looked like a stunning wall cloud on Sunday, but again it did not last and We were too far away to follow the storm. I did post a few photos on my facebook though and maybe some expert eyes can tell me if I'm even looking in the right direction?

Wish we had the means to go storm chasing because I think south africa has a lot of potential even if it is just severe weather like lightning storms, it still makes for some amazing viewing.

I assume you are refering to America when you talk about a tornado that touched down yesterday?

I have not heard any reports of tornadoes touching down in the States. I know they have been having a Capping problem preventing anything intense from forming over the past few days.

Back to SA, did you see the home page article on a funnel cloud in Centurion? How long have you been chasing storms?

I have been taking photos of storms since I can remember but never really thought of storm chasing until that movie Twister, but then my parents and everyone else thought it's crazy to want to go chase storms so I only take photos of storms when I get the chance. I don't spend time chasing after them though I really wish I could.

Yes, I was refering to the U.S., but seems like maybe these guys might not always be right or they don't report what they see - not sure which.

Every now and then they do have live cams where one can look at live streaming or videos already taken, but I find it disappointing to go on their website and find nothing most of the time not even a picture.

I collect storm photos, tornado photos for myself as we not as lucky (unlucky for the poor people who end up getting hurt or worse)here to actually get to see tornadoes up close. half the time they don't even make it to the ground.

I of course love lightning storms the most, but that is one dangerous hobby, if you don't know what you are doing.

I'm no professional at all but would really love to learn from one someday then maybe storm spotting and chasing would also be more fun if one went in a group..

Anyway, I'd better get back to work now. Nice meeting you.
