A developing cold front which is expected to make landfall on Friday the 5th June 2009 is set to bring a possibility of some very heavy rainfall to areas of the Western Cape. The GFS model has been fairly consistent over the past few runs, pointing towards between 40-70mm in 24 hours possible in areas of the Western Cape. Friday night could see up to 45mm in under 6 hours if the models are correct. It is recommended that those who could be influenced by these possibile heavy rainfalls keeps an eye on the situation. There is currently a discussion regarding this event in the forums section, so be sure to keep an on the forums. These model predictions have prompted the South African Weather Service to issue to following warning. National Warning - Issued on Wednesday, 3 June 2009 at 16.00 ADVISORIES: Heavy falls (> 50mm) of rain are expected along mountains in the Cape Metropole, Boland and western part of Overberg district Friday night. |
