So it seems once again South Africans find themselves on the receiving end of a pretty weak trolling attempt. A viral e-mail has been going around warning of 300km/h winds in the Western Cape this weekend, there is also the mention of tornadoes. THIS IS A HOAX E-MAIL. In no way is this reflective of any truth.
The e-mail itself has a picture of a hurricane, hurricanes do not affect the Western Cape and never will. These e-mails hold absolutely no truth and if one actually manages to fall for this, I highly recommend spending a bit more time on this site and learning the difference between hurricanes and tornadoes and become more versed in South African severe weather.
No there is no giant storm heading towards Cape Town, No there are no immediate tornado threats. You are being trolled...
Severe storms are possible mid-next week into the Free State and Gauteng, but these are completely unrelated to the e-mail and there is no immediate tornado threat.
So if you received the e-mail:
"BREAKING NEWS Gail force winds of up to 300km are expected for the western cape region during the course of the weekend. This bad weather that is approaching will reach Johannesburg region later this afternoon approaching from the west rand and heading towards the east rand with possibilities of stronger tornado’s experienced last weekend. Please make sure that you get home early as the roads are going to be chaotic due to the weather. Please make sure you and your loved ones are in doors when the wind starts to pick up, please make sure that pets are indoors as well. "
Please ignore it and do not forward the message, forwarding it will only be helping the troll reach his gains of spreading ignorant lies.
